Connecticut’s Credit Unions Donate $18,460 to Harvey Relief
19 credit unions around the state donate $18,460 for relief efforts in Texas after Harvey.
As Texas continues to recover from one of the worst storms to ever hit the state, Connecticut’s Credit Unions have collectively made a $18,460 donation for relief efforts. Funds were donated to the National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid program, which coordinates relief efforts for credit unions and employees affected by disaster.
The Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation matched credit union contributions for Harvey relief efforts up to $5,000. Credit unions supporting the cause included: 360 Federal Credit Union (Windsor Locks), American Eagle Financial Credit Union (East Hartford), Connex Credit Union (North Haven), CorePlus Federal Credit Union (Norwich), Dutch Point Credit Union (Wethersfield), Enfield Community Federal Credit Union (Enfield), Finex Credit Union (East Hartford), Greater Hartford Police Federal Credit Union (Hartford), Greenwich Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union (Greenwich), Hartford Federal Credit Union (Hartford), Healthcare Financial Federal Credit Union (New Haven), Manchester Municipal Federal Credit Union (Manchester), Members Credit Union (Cos Cob), MembersFirst CT Federal Credit Union (Meriden), Northeast Family Federal Credit Union (Manchester), Regional Water Authority Employees Credit Union (New Haven), Sikorsky Credit Union (Stratford), Torrington Municipal & Teachers Federal Credit Union (Torrington), and Wepawaug-Flagg Federal Credit Union (Hamden).
David Hinchey, executive director of the Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation said, “I’m heartened to see our credit unions banding together to support relief efforts so far from their local branches. Back when Connecticut was facing hurricane Sandy, credit unions around the country supported us the same way. Connecticut’s Credit Unions have a unique understanding of being in the shoes of those facing strife.”
According to the National Credit Union Foundation, more than $1 million has been raised to help the thousands of credit union people put their life back together after Harvey. All donations through CUAid go to credit union disaster relief and do not support any administrative costs.
